Vision & Mission
“Besides finding your feet, you should also find a voice and vision.” – Kumudini Lakhia (Renowned Kathak Guru)
Fostering a mélange of empirical as well as theoretical learning, Amruta believes that a strong fundamental training in dance and a vision to execute the core thought culminates into fine and inventive works. She reckons that for any classical dancer, solid training and proper Riyaz proves to be the kick-off to be an original. However, what sets one apart from the mainstream is one’s perspective: the way one looks at Kathak as a medium of expression, which further carves out one’s journey in its complex world. Amruta seeks to explore this expanse of Kathak; while carrying forth with her its flashy movements and spins, and, at the same time, indulging in the form’s poise, nuances, fluidity of movements and expressions to present a lingering taste of its true aesthetic and authenticity.
Boasting about the grand legacy that she is a part of, Amruta pays homage to the pain-staking efforts taken by all the former great dancers to pave a path for the younger generation of dancers to tread upon. She has undertaken the task of shouldering the responsibility to become a torch-bearer of these traditions and values established by them. As a part of this conquest, she aims to recover and retain the endangered facets of Kathak and present them in front of the audiences in her performances. She is driven to bring back the forgotten aspects of improvisation, visual aesthetic, dealing with the abstract and many more in order to magnify the layers of depth and intricacies in Kathak. She asserts that Kathak is not just about technical mastery, but about using this technical mastery as a medium to reach something spiritual beyond that. Shaped by her inquisitiveness, she intends to create ruminative experiences through the means of unexplored and abstract subjects in her choreographies. In the process of creating such experiences, she seeks to experiment and explore within the boundaries of Kathak in order to appreciate its scope and expanse. Being an adept performer and choreographer, she takes a delight and looks forward to collaborate with other artists, such as singers, music composers, light designers, cinematographers, and other technicians in her creative works. She opines that this creative exchange of ideas bring two different mediums together to form a third dimension, which paves way to exploration and creativity, serving the true purpose of art.
