“I plant the seed of Kathak and I water it with contemporary sensibilities.”
– Aditi Mangaldas
(Renowned Kathak Exponent)
In her attempts to deal with the abstract and less-voiced upon subjects, Amruta digs deep into the medium to explore and discover the spaces of the expanded format of Kathak. Always up for a challenge, she engages with enigmatic subjects with such a thoughtful and symbolic manner that her choreographies are open for mass interpretations. With numerous choreographic works to her name, she experiments with the versatility and expanse of Kathak with each new work. To sum up, her choreographies are intriguing and prove to be a cathartic experience for the audiences.
Cage
A thought-provoking production based on the quote by a Japanese writer Haruki Murakami – ‘Even if we managed to escape from one cage, weren’t we in just another, larger one?’ Exploring the themes of struggle between inner and outer world and the stringent cages created by them, it depicts the journey of reaching happiness. However, is it possible to reach that pinnacle or is it just an illusion?
Rathakalpana
Taken from the third Valli of Kathopanishada, the production depicts the human body to be a chariot, the soul to be the rider, the intellect to be the charioteer, the mind to be the reins and the five senses to be the horses. This fascinating concept parallels the principle of Ratha Kalpana to the journey of an artist to achieve a state of pure bliss.
Lakshmanresha
Eons ago, Sita crossed the one boundary she wasn’t supposed to, and what unfolded next was Ramayana. Has the situation really changed today? If Sita has one boundary, today’s woman is surrounded by hundreds of such boundaries. A spine-chilling production based on famous Marathi poet, Padma Gole’s poem; it parallels Sita to the woman of the so-called 21st century!
Rasanubhaav
A cathartic production of the depiction of all nine Rasas (Shringaar, Karuna, Hasya, Raudra, Veer, Bibhatsa, Bhayanak, Adbhuta and Shanta) mentioned in our texts through a series of Indian mythological stories, culminating into the ninth Rasa, Shanta Rasa. A musically rich production that aims to instigate these Rasas in the hearts of the audiences!
Kathak Abhivyakti
A splendid production presenting the mélange of traditional, technical, expressive and fusion elements of Kathak through various solo and group choreographies. The production acquaints the audiences to the style and versatility of Kathak through awe-inspiring technical compositions as well as ardent and intense Abhinaya pieces.
Kathak Vidha
Annual concert of Amruta’s institute, Abhivyakti School of Kathak, which fosters the experience of a live performance to all its students. The show is a celebration of learning Kathak in its authentic form and sharing the joy with the audiences through an array of choreographies done by Amruta herself.
